Day 2
Drive to Pymatuning State Park, Pennsylvania
Today we drove 320 miles from Berkshire, NY to Pymatuning State Park, Pennsylvania. The drive took us just under 6 hours. This park is on the border of Pennsylvania and Ohio, in the northwest part of the state. The drive was fine, except for a big part of I-86 a.k.a. route 17, which was under construction and down to one bumpy 45 mph lane. It also poured rain for a good part of the drive. At least the sun came out by the time we got here. We saw our first bear on route 17 today. Unfortunately, it was “road-kill” on the side of the road.
The camp is pretty deserted since it is a Tuesday. We did see a deer when we arrived at the camp. It crossed the road in front of us. We played some catch with those sticky, Velcro ball things and ate a yummy steak dinner. Tomorrow we’ll drive through Ohio to the other side and camp at Harrison Lake State Park.
The humidity is ridiculously high today and the mosquitoes are rampant. We are all wearing Deep Woods mosquito repellent with DEET. It seems to work. Signing off until tomorrow!
