Prepped and Ready

Over Memorial Day weekend we got the travel trailer prepped and ready for our journey. Actually this process started in February, when I thoroughly cleaned and re-organized the inside of the trailer. In April we de-winterized the water holding tank and sanitized the water system. We also got a new mattress for our bed, since we'll be sleeping on it every night for about two months and added some equipment such as a new hose for fresh water, a new waste hose, a surge protector/voltage monitor device for when we hook up at campsites, and a cool sticker showing all the states we've been to. In addition, we got a second battery and installed a hitch receiver on the front of the Yukon so that we can use our cargo carrier in the front of the vehicle to carry our generator.

This weekend we moved the trailer so that it is poised and ready to go. We also started cleaning the ugly black streaks off the outside of the trailer and I cleaned the floors again. Darn feet keep bringing in mud.

The only problem we seem to be having is with the stabilizing jacks. They are old and rusty and difficult to move, and something is wrong with two of them so that Rodney is having a lot of difficulty turning the nut because it is loosening up when it shouldn't be. It needs to be tack-welded. We're hoping to get that solved very soon, but even so, it is useable as it is.

27 days and counting down!

First Photo Attempt

This is an old photo from spring of 2005, but it will do for now so that you can see what our "rig" looks like.
